As we are about to receive our Lord’s body and blood

Pastor: As we are about to receive our Lord’s body and blood in, with, and under this bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins, let us make confession to our heavenly Father.
With the psalmist we say to the Lord, “I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:-2
People: But we confess that we do not always look to God for our help, or trust that He will be faithful to keep His promises.
Silence for reflection on the Word of God and for self-examination.
Pastor: Almighty God, Maker of heaven and earth,
People: we confess that we are by nature sinful. We have failed to love You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. Instead of trusting in Your promises, we have let fear, doubt, and pride direct our steps. For the sake of Jesus, forgive us. By the power of Your Holy Spirit cleanse our hearts and minds that we might walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
Pastor: Be assured that our help does come from the Lord.  God’s covenant with us is true; He is faithful even when we fail. By His Spirit He gives us the gift of faith and makes us righteous in His sight.
People: Amen.  Thanks be to God!
