Questions on the Road
When we encounter today’s text, Jesus and the disciples continue to make their way from Capernaum to Jerusalem. According to Google Maps (the most trusted first century map application) it’s about 100 miles between, so one can imagine there were stretches of time when the cadre walked in silence.
I’ve found that the combination of silence and walking are an excellent space for the mind and imagination to wander. Some of the most important conversations we have as a family take place on hikes—not staring across the table at one another.
So we can imagine that the questions Jesus poses and the responses of the disciples (and vice versa) accurately reveal the location of their hearts and minds. This week’s request by James…
