Tradition has it that Jennie Jerome, who would eventually become Winston Churchill’s mother, once had dinner with the British politician William Gladstone. She left the meal thinking Gladstone was the "cleverest person in England." Later, she had the opportunity to share a meal with Benjamin Disraeli, another politician who happened to be Gladstone’s great rival. She left that dinner thinking she was the cleverest person in England. We’d all like to be the cleverest person in the room, but which person do you think Jesus would want us to emulate? The one who makes others feel insecure compared to their intellect, or the one who leaves everyone else feeling like they are as brilliant as Albert Einstein?
