Calls To Worship

Wisdom

Adapted from Psalm 1

Leader: Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.

People: But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Leader: That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—

People: whatever they do prospers. So Lord we cry out for your help to obey all your ways.

Leader: Come Let us Worship the Lord!

  Adapted From Psalm 19

Leader:  The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

People:  The commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

People:  More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.

Leader:  And by them we are warned; for in keeping them there is great reward.

All: Come Let us worship God.

Adapted from Psalm 8

Leader: O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

People:   You have set your glory above the heavens. From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.

Leader: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place…

People: Who are we that you are mindful of us?

Leader: Creator of Heaven and Earth, thank You for creating us and loving us in a way that knows no limits.

People: We acknowledge You as Lord and praise You for all of creation.

Leader: Holy Spirit, we welcome You in this time of praise and worship.

People: Please, Lord, shape us and mold us into the disciples of Jesus Christ that You are calling us to be.

Adapted from Psalm 90

Leader: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

People: But in comparison, the days of our life on this earth are but a moment.

Leader: So teach us, Lord, to count our days that we may be wise.

People: Meet us here this morning, remind us of Your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Leader: Yes, let us thank and praise God for every minute.

Adapted from Psalm 90:12-14

Teach us to number our days

That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Relent, Lord! How long will it be?

Have compassion on your servants.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love

That we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Leader: Happy are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.

People: For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.

Leader: She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.

People: Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.

Leader: Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.

People: She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her.

Happy is everyone who retains her.

Adapted from Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed
To the pattern of this world,
But be transformed

By the renewing of your minds.

Then you will be able

To test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

Risen Christ Jesus, help us to conform to your pattern of life.

Adapted from Romans 15:6–7

Christ, the One who was, and is, and is to come,

welcomes you to this place.

As one body, with one voice,

we honor and glorify the giver of wisdom,

counsel, knowledge, and joy.

Amen. So be it.

We proclaim the message of the cross:

This is the wisdom and power of God.

For God alone my soul waits in silence.

Steadfast love belongs to the Lord.

Jesus said: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.

May the word of God be fulfilled among us.

In your wisdom, O God, you call us here to worship you.

We gather, alive to the Word of God.

You call us to be fully alive with your life abundant,
ready to listen and respond with heart, soul, strength, and mind.

We listen, alive to the Word of God.

You call us to be always watchful for your Word of wisdom, sometimes startling and unexpected, sometimes still and quiet,
but always dwelling among us.

We watch and wait for the Word of God.

Adapted from Psalm 111

Leader: Praise the Lord! Give thanks to the Lord with your whole heart.

People: The Lord is gracious and merciful. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.

Leader: Holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding.

All: His praise endures forever!
