Calls To Worship

The Soul

Adapted from Psalm 23

Leader: The Lord is our shepherd.

People: All our needs will be met. God provides a place and time for deep rest and restoration. God leads us beside still waters; restores our souls and leads us in right paths. We do not need to be afraid; for God is with us; now and forever.

Leader: Such faith calls for some singing!

Adapted from Psalm 23

Leader: God, You are my shepherd, I shall not want.

People: You make me lie down in green pastures; You lead me beside still waters; You restore my soul. You lead me in right paths for Your name’s sake.

Leader: Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

People: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Leader: Let us worship the Lord.

(Ps 23:1-3, 5-6 (ESV, pronouns changed for liturgical use), Ps 23:4 (NIV))

Adapted from Psalm 84

How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty!

My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord;

My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere.

I would rather be the doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.

Adapted from Psalm 42

As the deer longs for flowing streams,

So my soul longs for you, oh God.

My soul thirsts for God,

For the living God.

When shall I come and behold the face of God?

My tears have been my food day and night,

While people say to me continually, “Where is your God?”

I say to God, my rock, “Why have you forgotten me?”

Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,

My help and my God.

Adapted from Psalm 103:1-4

Praise the Lord, oh my soul.

All my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord, oh my soul.

And forget not his benefits.

Who forgives all your sins,

And heals all your diseases,

Who redeems your life from the pit,

And crowns you with love and compassion.

Adapted from Psalm 103:1-5 (ESV)

Pastor: Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

All: Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,

Pastor: who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,

All: who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Adapted from Luke 1:46-55 (ESV)

Pastor: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.”

All: “for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”

Pastor: “And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.”

All: “He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
