Calls To Worship

The Temple

Adapted from Psalm 5:7-8, 11-12

Leader: I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you.

All: Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.

Leader: But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.

All: For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.

Adapted from Psalm 11:4-7 (ESV)

Pastor: The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD’s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.

All: The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.

Pastor: Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

All: For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.

 Responsive Prayer from Psalm 29

Give the Lord the glory due his name;

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters:

The God of glory thunders:

The Lord is upon many waters.

The voice of the Lord is powerful;

The voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire.

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare.

And in his temple all cry, “Glory!” 9NIV

The Lord sits upon the flood; the Lord sits as King forever.

The Lord will give strength to his people;

The Lord will bless his people with peace.

(Adapted for modern liturgical use from Ps 29:1-4, 7, 8, 10-11 (KJV), Ps 29:9 (NIV))

Adapted From Psalm 84:1-4 (ESV)

Pastor: How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts!

All: My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

Pastor: Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God.

All: Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!

Adapted from Psalm 138:1-5 (ESV)

Pastor: I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;

All: I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.

Pastor: On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased.

All: All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.

Adapted from Psalm 150:1-2, 6, (the Psalter)

Hallelujah!

Praise! Praise God in the temple, in the highest heavens!

Praise! Praise God’s mighty deeds and noble majesty.

All that is alive, praise!

Praise the Lord.

Hallelujah!

Adapted from Isaiah 2:3-4

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

To the temple, to the God of Jacob.

He will teach us his ways,

So that we may walk in his paths.

Come, descendents of Jacob.

Let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Adapted from Ephesians 2:19-22

So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God,

Being built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone;

In whom the whole building, fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord;

In whom you also are built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.

God, you are my God. I earnestly seek you.

I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
I have seen you in your sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.

Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will life up my hands.

I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
