Calls To Worship

Idolatry

Adapted from Joshua 24

Pastor: Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away your false idols, and serve the LORD. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
All: Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD, for it is the LORD our God who saved us. Therefore, we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.
Pastor: You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.
All: The LORD our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.

Adapted from 2 Kings 17:7-23

All: O God, You have loved us so well. You have been kind to us. You have given us all that we need. You have kept us from danger. You have given us new life and forgiveness
in Your Son, Jesus, but we have sinned against you, doing what You told us not to do. We think and live like You don’t love us, like You don’t see our struggles, like You
don’t see our needs. We think that other gods of money, more stuff, looking good, seeming smart, and feeling accepted will make us whole and happy. But really, only
you can make us whole and joyful. Help us trust You when You say, “I will be with you.”

Almighty God, You created us in your image, each of us in your likeness.

Help us to worship You alone, Lord, and never bow to any created thing.

We see your handiwork in every one of your works, but You alone are worthy of our hearts.

Accept our worship today, God, because of Jesus, our perfect sight of You.

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.

You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.

The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply

The LORD is my chosen portion and my lot.

Let us worship our sovereign God.
