Eschatology (The Second Coming of Christ)

Adapted from Genesis 3:19, Matthew 24:36

 From dust you have come,

And to dust you shall return.

But about that day or hour

No one knows.

Not even the angels in heaven,

Nor the Son, but only the Father.

Lord of all, we submit ourselves to your merciful care this day.

Adapted from Revelation 21:1-4

Pastor: Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

All: And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Pastor: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

All: He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Adapted from Malachi 2 and 3

Has not the one God made you?

We belong to God in body and in spirit

And what does the one God seek?

To be on our guard and to be faithful.

The Lord will send his messenger,

The Lord, whom we desire, will come.

O Lord of Hosts, prepare us for that coming.

Austin D. Hill

Adapted from Isaiah 40

“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.

A voice of one calling:

“In the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord.

Make straight in the desert a highway for our God

Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low;

The rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,

And all people will see it together.”

Austin D. Hill (Is 40:1, 3-4, NIV, adapted for liturgical use)
