Calls To Worship

Light

Adapted from Genesis 1 / John 1

In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. The earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep.

And the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters

In the beginning God said: “let there be light,” and there was light.

And God saw that the light was good and He separated the light from the darkness.

In the beginning was life, and that life was the light of the world

And the darkness has not understood the light

The true light that gives light to everyone has come into the world

The Father, His one and only Son, and the Spirit of Truth are with us here and now

Jacob Traeger

Adapted from Genesis 32

In the morning when the sun rises we shall praise You, O Lord.

People:  You have delivered us through every long night and given us safe passage across rivers of struggle.

Leader:  The darkness is past; the light has come.  Let us raise our song and prayer to you, O Lord, in joy.

Adapted from Psalm 27

Leader:            The Lord is our light and our salvation—

So why should we be afraid?

People:           The Lord is our fortress, protecting us from danger,

                        So why should we tremble?

Leader:            The one thing we ask of the Lord is to live in the house of the Lord

all the days of our lives.

People:          Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous.

Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

All:                 Let us worship God!

Adapted from Psalm 27:1-2; 4-5

The Lord is my light and my salvation—

    whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—

of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked advance against me

    to devour me,

it is my enemies and my foes

    who will stumble and fall.

One thing I ask from the Lord,

    this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord

and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble

    he will keep me safe in his dwelling;

he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent

and set me high upon a rock.

Adapted from Psalm 36:5, 7-9

Pastor: Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.

All: How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

Pastor: They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.

All: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Adapted from Psalm 119

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Praise be to you, LORD; teach me your decrees.

With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

For your word is a lamp for my feet, and light for my path.

Let our light shine, giving glory to God.

Do all things for the sake of the gospel.

Adapted from 1 John 2

Leader: This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

All: If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

Leader: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

All: If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

I was glad when they said to me,

“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

that we may learn God’s ways

and walk in God’s paths.

Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem

Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!
