Calls To Worship

The Law/Torah

Adapted from Isaiah 2:3-5

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

To the house of the God of Jacob.

He will teach us his ways,

So that we may walk in his paths.

The law will go out from Zion,

The word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

God will judge between the nations

And will settle disputes for many peoples

They will beat their swords in plowshares

And their spears into pruning hooks.

Nation will not take up sword against nation,

Nor will they war any more.

Come, house of Jacob,

Let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Austin D. Hill

Adapted from Ezekiel 36:25-27

The Lord says,

“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.

I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you,

I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”

Sanctifying Spirit, please move among us as we worship you today.

Adapted from Psalm 1

Leader: Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.

People: But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Leader: That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—

People: whatever they do prospers. So Lord we cry out for your help to obey all your ways.

Leader: Come Let us Worship the Lord!

Psalm 19:7-11; 14 ESV

Leader: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

People: The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;

Leader: The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

People: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

Leader: Let the words of [our] mouth[s] and the meditation of [our] heart[s] be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, [our] rock and [our] redeemer.

Adapted from Psalm 119:5-7

Oh, that my ways were steadfast

In obeying your decrees!

Then I would not be put to shame

When I consider all your commands.

We will praise you with an upright heart

As we learn your righteous laws.

Let us open our hearts to your guidance, oh God, as we worship you.

Adapted from Psalm 119:9-16

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?

By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart;

do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

Praise be to you, Lord;

teach me your decrees.

With my lips I recount

 all the laws that come from your mouth.

I rejoice in following your statutes

as one rejoices in great riches.

I meditate on your precepts

and consider your ways.

I delight in your decrees;

I will not neglect your word.

Adapted from Psalm 19

Leader: The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.

People: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple.

Leader: But who can detect one’s own errors? May God clear us from hidden faults.

All: Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to the Lord, our rock and our redeemer.
