Calls To Worship

Earth

Adapted from Exodus 3

The Lord says,

“I am the God of your ancestors.

I have indeed seen the misery of my people.

I have heard them crying out because of their oppressors.

So I have come down to rescue them.

And to bring them into a good and spacious land.”

Oh Lord Almighty,

We look to Zion, to your promise of restoration, of Shalom. Empower us to help bring about your kingdom here and now.

Adapted from Psalm 8 (WEB)

Leader: Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

People: You have set your glory above the heavens!

Leader: From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength,

because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

People: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;

what is humankind, that you think of them?

Leader: What are human beings that you care for them?

People: For you have made him a little lower than the angels,

and crowned him with glory and honor.

Leader: You make them rulers over the works of your hands.

You have put all things under their feet:

People: All sheep and cattle,

yes, and the animals of the field,

the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea,

and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

Leader: Oh Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The earth is the Lord’s

And all that is in it,

The world,

And those who live in it;

For God has found it on the seas,

And established it on the rivers.

Creator God, we praise you today for your mighty works, in all of creation, and in each of our lives.

Adapted from Psalm 24:1-2 & Psalm 62:11

The psalmist calls us to worship saying:

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it;

for He founded it upon the seas

and established it upon the waters (24:1,2).

One thing you have spoken O LORD,

two things I have heard:

that you, O God, are strong,

and that You, O LORD, are loving (62:11f)

At Jesus’ invitation and by His grace:

Come, let us worship the LORD our God!

Leader: “If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.”

People: “For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon us and His glory will appear over us.”

Leader: “While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”

People: Nations shall come to our light, and kings to the brightness of our dawn.

Adapted from Revelation 21:1-4

Leader: Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

All: And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Leader: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

All: He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
