Calls To Worship

Covenant

 Adapted from Numbers 23:19-22

Leader: God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind.

All: Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

Leader: The LORD their God is with us, and the shout of a king is among us.

All: God brings us out of slavery and is for us like the horns of the wild ox.

Adapted from Deuteronomy 7:6-11

Pastor: For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more significant than any other people that the LORD set his love on you and chose you, for you were the leastof all peoples, but it is because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of sinful slavery. Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face. You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment and the statutes and the rules that I command you today.

People: He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:

Leader: “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”

People: The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

Adapted from Psalm 89:1-4, NRSV

I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever;

with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness

to all generations.

I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;

your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,

I have sworn to my servant David:

‘I will establish your descendants forever,

and build your throne for all generations.’”

Praise the Lord!

Adapted from Psalm 124:8

“Our help is in the name of the Lord,

who made heaven and earth.”

What did God do to help us?

God chose the people of Israel to make a new beginning.

They received God’s covenant and prepared the way

for Jesus to come as our Savior.

Let us worship the God of the covenant, the God of heaven and earth.
