Calls To Worship

Anointing

Adapted from Psalm 20:6-7 (ESV)

Now I know this:

“that the Lord saves his anointed;

he will answer him from his holy heaven

with the saving might of his right hand.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

God, we proclaim our faith in you as we worship you today.

Adapted by Austin D. Hill (ESV)

Adapted from Psalm 23

Leader: God, You are my shepherd, I shall not want.

People: You make me lie down in green pastures; You lead me beside still waters; You restore my soul. You lead me in right paths for Your name’s sake.

Leader: Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

People: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Leader: Let us worship the Lord.

(Ps 23:1-3, 5-6 (ESV, pronouns changed for liturgical use), Ps 23:4 (NIV))

Adapted from Proverbs 3:13-18 (WEB)

Leader: Happy are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.

People: For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.

Leader: She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.

People: Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.

Leader: Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.

People: She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her.

Happy is everyone who retains her.
