A Prayer for Veterans Day: Honor Veterans in Your Church

Scripture (2)

Veterans Day offers churches an opportunity to honor men and women in your community who have served in the military. This pastorally sensitive Prayer for Veterans acknowledges the full spectrum of military service—honoring those who served, supporting struggling veterans dealing with trauma and health issues, and comforting military families who've lost loved ones.

This prayer invites congregational participation by providing space at the beginning for members to speak the names of veterans they know. The prayer includes text from John 15:13 and Micah 4:1-4, grounding your Veterans Day liturgy in scripture while addressing the real struggles veterans face—physical wounds, mental health challenges, and family separation.

This prayer is ideal for incorporating in the prayers of the people, but may be incorporated anywhere in your service.

Though this prayer is designed for one voice with member participation, a different reader say Micah 4:1-4.
