Lewis B. Smedes

Lewis B. Smedes (1921–2002) was a renowned Christian ethicist, theologian, and author whose work explored themes of grace, forgiveness, and human relationships. Born in Muskegon, Michigan, Smedes grew up in a Dutch Reformed community and attended Calvin College. He later earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Calvin Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. in theology and ethics from the Free University of Amsterdam.

Smedes spent much of his career as a professor at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where he taught theology and ethics for over 25 years. Known for his engaging and compassionate teaching style, he was a mentor to countless students, helping them navigate the complexities of ethical and theological dilemmas in a rapidly changing world.

A prolific writer, Smedes authored numerous books and articles, many of which became classics in Christian literature.
