Leonard Ravenhill

Leonard Ravenhill (1907–1994) was a British-American Christian evangelist, author, and preacher renowned for his passionate commitment to revival, prayer, and spiritual awakening. Born in Leeds, England, Ravenhill experienced a personal conversion to Christ at an early age, which set the course for his life of ministry. He moved to the United States in the 1930s, where he became a key figure in the 20th-century revivalist movement.

Ravenhill’s ministry was marked by an intense focus on the need for deep spiritual renewal and a return to biblical faithfulness in the church. He was particularly concerned with the apathy he perceived within the Christian community, and his preaching called for personal holiness, prayer, and a fervent pursuit of God. His commitment to revival led him to travel extensively, speaking at conferences, churches, and university campuses, calling Christians to awaken to their calling and seek God with greater fervor.

In addition to his evangelistic efforts, Ravenhill authored several books that have become classics in Christian literature, including Why Revival Tarries, Revival Praying, and The Price and Power of Revival. His writings challenge Christians to examine their hearts and engage in passionate prayer and intercession for spiritual renewal. Ravenhill’s style was uncompromising, often focusing on the cost of discipleship and the urgent need for personal and corporate revival.

Leonard Ravenhill’s influence extended far beyond his lifetime, as his messages and books continue to inspire Christians to pursue God with zeal and to pray for revival. Despite his passing in 1994, Ravenhill’s legacy endures through the many lives he touched and the call to return to authentic, Christ-centered faith and revival that he so passionately championed.
