Prayers of Invocation on Creation

Sermon Illustrations on Creation

Almighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all those who are penitent; create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging’ our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer

Almighty and everlasting God, who hates nothing that you have made, and does forgive the sins of all those who are penitent; create and make in us new and remorseful hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging’ our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer, Modernized by Stuart Strachan Jr.

Creator Spirit, by whose aid

The world’s foundations first were laid,

Come, visit every pious mind;

Come, pour thy joys on humankind;

From sin and sorrow set us free, And make thy temples worthy thee.

John Dryden

We praise you today, Lord, for Your incredible power. With mere words You create, transform, and sustain life. As we experience Your presence in this place we ask that You would use Your power to work in our hearts. Help us to become more like Your Son through the power of Your Spirit. Amen.

Austin D. Hill

God has come into the presence of humanity

God, who spoke the world into being, has revealed himself to us

In part through His creation

In part through His prophets and the story of His people Israel

And in full through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ

God has come into the presence of humanity

And we find ourselves here, as everywhere, in the presence of God

So we come to praise our God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Jacob Traeger

All-powerful God, we praise You today for Your sovereignty. You rule over all creation. Through the breath of Your Spirit, You give us life. Through the death of Your Son we find acceptance with You. Your power goes beyond all imagination, yet You are here with us now. Guide us in humble worship as we praise Your powerful name. Amen.

O Great Spirit, whose breath gives life to the world, and whose voice is heard in the soft breeze; We need your strength and wisdom. Cause us to walk in beauty. Give us the eyes ever to behold the red and purple sunset. Make us wise so that we may understand what you have taught us. Help us learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Make us always ready to come to you with clean hands and steady eyes, so when life fades, like the fading sunset, our hearts come to you without shame. Amen.
