Prayers of Confession on Thoughts

Inspired by Psalm 55

Heavenly Father,  we come to you as a sinful people.  We are all too aware that our thoughts are not like your thoughts,  nor are our ways like your ways.  You are righteous and holy,

We are fallen and in need of redemption.  We pray this morning that you would hear our prayers of confession, forgive us of our sins, and reconcile us to yourself.  In the name of your

Son we pray.  Amen.

Holy God, you see us as we are. You know our inmost thoughts. We confess we are unworthy of Your gracious care, for we forget that all life comes from You. We have not lived as Your grateful children, nor have we loved as Christ loved us. Apart from Your grace, there is no health in us. Lord, in Your mercy, forgive us, heal us, and make us whole. Set us free from our sin, and restore to us Your joy. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord and God, you know what we are about to say in prayer, you know what we ought to say, and even what we need to say but cannot. Our sins trouble us, though they don’t trouble us as much as they should, for, in the final scrutiny of our thoughts and deeds, it is against you and you only that we have sinned. Forgive us for the wrongs we have done and the right things we have left undone; forgive us because we are often so nonchalant when we enter your presence in prayer and worship, thinking that we deserve to be here and have earned your grace.

Remind us in our thoughtlessness that the forgiving grace you offer cost our Savior Christ the suffering of hatred and death. But you, God, had a plan we never would have thought of: you raised Jesus from the dead, and now the Lord Jesus Christ sits at your right hand interceding for us. It is that intercession that we need to infiltrate the words and thoughts of our prayer and bring unmerited grace and joyful peace. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, your face is hidden from us by our sins, and we forget your mercy in the blindness of our hearts.

Cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires. With lowliness and meekness may we draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength; through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Eternal and Glorious God, Your grace calls us toward growth and service in You. Yet today we acknowledge the many times we have forgotten Your mercy and rejected Your love. Forgive us when we sin against You Through our thoughts, words, and deeds. Forgive us when we neglect to think, speak, and do as You desire. Renew and restore us, O God. Help us to run the race You put before us with perseverance, patience, and passion. In His name we pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, Your Laws are gracious and good. But they can also reveal our darkest thoughts. We confess that we are prone to ungodly ideas, even works of the devil. Forgive us when we have cruel and deadly thoughts. Instead, keep our minds pure and focused on Jesus. May our hearts reflect the grace and love of God for our fellow men and women. Help us to consistently testify of Your goodness. We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
