Prayers of Confession on Abundant Life

Adapted from Psalm 91

Holy Lord, God of life, hear our prayer:

Forgive us when we follow those paths that do not lead to life,

That lead instead to violence, or hate, or fear,

Paths that lead to dread and death.

Forgive us when we forget that you offer us life,

Life that is abundant and eternal,

Life that began at the creation of all things.

Forgive us, turn us to the right path,

and let your love and grace flow over us and the world.

We pray in Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.

Adapted from Psalm 135:15-18

All: “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them.” We have wanted more money and more things more than we have wanted more time with You, Jesus. We think more money, more toys, better health, more screen time, and more freedom will make us happy. But only you, Jesus, can fill our hearts with joy
and wipe away our tears. Please forgive us, and help our hearts to want you more than anything else.

Almighty God, there is no one else like You. You are always true, as are your promises. You listen to us patiently with the compassion of a good Father. You also answer us with perfect wisdom. You brought us eternal salvation when no one else could. We confess that we sometimes neglect prayer and time with You. We also admit that we fail to follow through Your commandments. Yet, You call us to repentance and in You we find the abundance of life. Forgive us, Lord, for our failures and our lack of trust, and grant us the precious gift of Your loving grace. In the name of Jesus, our Savior we pray. Amen.

Holy Lord, High Priest over all people,

You have given us everything we need to live a life of flourishing. You have met our needs and provided a model for what a life-with-God looks like. But we often forget, we neglect the greater reality of of what you offer us. So instead we turn away from you, believing that even if you are God, we can get a little comfort right now, trusting that you will forgive us later. Lord we ask that you would so inspire us that we would have no need and no interest in diversions or escapes, destructive habits and behaviors. Because you are enough.

Amen.
