Calls To Worship

The Sun

Adapted from Genesis 32

Leader: In the morning when the sun rises we shall praise You, O Lord.

People:  You have delivered us through every long night and given us safe passage across rivers of struggle.

Leader:  The darkness is past; the light has come.  Let us raise our song and prayer to you, O Lord, in joy.

Adapted from John 12, assorted scriptures

Leader: Jesus said to them, “If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.”

People: Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

Leader: “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you.”

People: For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon us and His glory will appear over us.

Leader: “While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”

People: Nations shall come to our light, and kings to the brightness of our dawn.

Leader: Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

People: Then we shall see and be radiant. The sun shall no longer be our light by day, nor shall the moon give light to us by night; but the Lord will be our everlasting light, and our God will be our glory.

Adapted from Isaiah 60; Ephesians 5

Wake up! Get out of bed!

Feel the sunlight on your face!

God’s bright glory has risen for you.

But the earth is dark. Everywhere we look there is selfishness sin, greed, death, destruction.

You don’t have to be part of that. Why waste your lives on the things you “must” do in the darkness where no one will see? See how attractive those fake activities look in the light of Christ!

But God rises on you; his sunrise glory breaks over you.

We know that God is our saviour, our redeemer, our champion!

We’ll no longer need the sun during the day and the moon at night: God will be our light.

Christ has made it happen; his bright light makes the way clear.

Adapted from Psalm 148

Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens. Praise the Lord from the heights!

People: Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!

Leader: Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!

People: Praise him you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!

Leader: Praise the Lord from the earth, mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars!

People: Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth!

All: Let us praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his glory is above earth and heaven. Praise the Lord!

Adapted From Psalm 50:1-6

Leader: The mighty one, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.

People: Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.

Leader: Our God comes and does not keep silence, before him is a devouring fire, and a mighty tempest all around him.

People: He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:

Leader: “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”

People: The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

Leader: Let us worship the Lord!
