Adapted from Nehemiah 9:6-15
Pastor: You are the LORD, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you. You are the LORD, the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham. You found his heart faithful before you and made with him the covenant to give to his offspring the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, and the Girgashite. And you have kept your promise, for you are righteous.
And you saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt and heard their cry at the Red Sea, and performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants and all the people of his land, for you knew that they acted arrogantly against our fathers. And you made a name for yourself, as it is to this day. And you divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on dry land, and you cast their pursuers into the depths, as a stone into mighty waters.
By a pillar of cloud you led them in the day, and by a pillar of fire in the night to light for them the way in which they should go. You came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven and gave them right rules and true laws, good statutes and commandments, and you made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law by Moses your servant. You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and brought water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and you told them to go in to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.

What did God do to help us?
God chose the people of Israel to make a new beginning.
They received God’s covenant and prepared the way
for Jesus to come as our Savior.
Let us worship the God of the covenant, the God of heaven and earth.

Leader: Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.
People: Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever.
Leader: The Lord sets the prisoners free, opens the eyes of the blind, and lifts up those who are bowed down. People: The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord!
Leader: Let us worship God!

Leader: Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
People: He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted;
but those who wait for the Lord
shall renew their strength.
Leader: What happens when we wait for the Lord?
People: We shall renew our strength.
We shall mount up with wings like eagles,
we shall run and not be weary,
we shall walk and not faint.

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
The sea, and everything in them—
He remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
And gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
The Lord gives sight to the blind,
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
The Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner
And sustains the fatherless and the widow,
But he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
The Lord reigns forever.
So humble us, O Lord, we pray as we gather to worship you.

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary.
And his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Let us enter into worship, acknowledging the Lordship of Christ and his work of reconciliation by proclaiming together the words of Colossians 1:15-20, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers–all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.”

Leader: The Lord searches us and knows us. God discerns our thoughts and is acquainted with all our ways.
People: Even the darkness is not dark to God; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to the Lord.
Leader: God formed our inward parts, knitting each of us together in our mother’s wombs. Our frames were not hidden from him when we were being made in secret, as we were intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
All: Praise the Lord, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Leader: The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
People: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple.
Leader: But who can detect one’s own errors? May God clear us from hidden faults.
All: Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to the Lord, our rock and our redeemer.
