Calls To Worship

Children

Psalm 8:1-2 (NIV)

Leader: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

All: You have set your glory in the heavens.

Leader: Through the praise of children and infants,

All: you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

Leader: Let us worship the Triune God!

Allen Thompson (NIV, adapted for liturgical use)

Adapted from Psalm 36:5, 7-8 (ESV)

Pastor: “Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.”

All: “How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.”

Pastor: “They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.”

All: For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Adapted from Psalm 103 (NRSVUE)

Leader: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits —”

People: “As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear Him. For He knows how we were made; He remembers that we are dust. As for mortals, their days are like grass; they flourish like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.”

Leader: “But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep His covenant and remember to do His commandments.” Let us bless the Lord, with all we have within us, let us bless His holy name.

(Ps 103:1-2, 13-18, NRSVUE, adapted for liturgical use)

Adapted from Psalm 145:1-4, 21

Leader: I will exalt you, my God, the King. I will praise your name forever and ever.

All: Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever.

Leader: Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised! His greatness is unsearchable. One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.

All: My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord. Let all living things bless his holy name forever and ever.

Adapted from John 12 and Isaiah 60

Leader: Jesus said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you.”

People: “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.”

Leader: “If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.”

People: “For darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon us and His glory will appear over us.”

Leader: “While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”

People: Nations shall come to our light, and kings to the brightness of our dawn.

(Jn 12:35-36, Is 60:1-3 NRSVUE, adapted for liturgical use)

When Jesus speaks, our hearts burn within us;

Our eyes are opened when he breaks the bread.

Beloved, we are God’s children now;

When Christ is revealed, we will be like him.

Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain.

Blessing and honor and glory to God!
